恐怖歸恐怖，我們還是要正確認識這個所謂的“腦機接口”。顧名思義就是指有機生命的腦或神經系統，與任何處理或計算的設備比如簡單電路到硅芯片之間建立雙向信息交換。人類這項研究上已經超過五十年的歷史，主要集中在聽覺、視覺和肢體運動能力三大塊。研究的主線還是在恢復人體損傷的功能，以及增強現有的功能。

研究發展典型的事件有如下幾個：

20世紀70年代證實了猴可以在閉環的操作性條件作用后快速學會自由地控制初級運動皮層中單個神經元的放電頻率；

20世紀80年代，找到了獼猴的上肢運動的方向和運動皮層中單個神經元放電模式的關系，以及一組分散的神經元也能夠編碼肢體運動。

20世紀90年代，已經能夠使用神經集群記錄技術實時捕捉運動皮層中的復雜神經信號，并用來控制外部設備。

2008年，匹茲堡大學神經生物學家宣稱創造的腦機接口可以被猴子用來操縱機械手臂給自己喂食物。

2019年，SpaceX及特斯拉創始人成立的專門研究腦機接口的公司，宣布已經找到了高效實現腦機接口的方法。
